Eclipse has started to slow down
I have been testing via ADSL Guide for the last 2 hours or so and get an
average 340kps

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/sp...403e76a86d82a4

Downloading files from Microsoft I get 42k

Up until today I was getting 464kps and 60k nearly every time

I notice from their Service Status page that there was a BT outrage this
morning which was solved about 11am

Anybody else getting the same before I phone Eclipse

Not directly related but if you expect full speeds all the time on a
contended ADSL you will eventually be disappointed - its not a leased line
and you won't get full speeds all the time - if you think you will/should
you don't understand the product you have brought

Also, do Eclipse have their own speed checker? If so, I would use that
instead of ADSLGuide's one - as your "slow" speeds could be caused by
something else..

I fully understand that I will not get "full speed" al the time.

But a drop from 460 + all the time to 220-340 for several hours is I think
unusual. Please correct me if I am wrong.

340 is the max I now get. Eclipse do not have there own speed checker as
far as I know. I have tied others which all give similar results

Also bear in mind alot of isps are being battered by the current wave of
virus's so that may be a cause of the slowdown.

It wouldn't surprise me if this happened occasionally - particularly in the
peak "evening" period.

Remember that your exchange in the beginning would of not had many people on
it and so contention would not really have been an issue but as more and
more people get ADSL the more you have to share your bandwidth both at the
exchange and at your ISP and the best way for a speed check is upload a
large file to the web space you get and then download it and see what speed
you get as all downloads which are off the network which you have subscribed
are out of the control of your ISP and so are not a good means of testing
the speed of your ISP
