EASY Router question

I just installed a Linksys BEFVP41 VPN router, connected to my machine
running WIN98SE. Next week, a network guy at my company's home office will
be assisting me over the phone with completing the VPN setup.

Meanwhile, I am successfully connected to the internet through the router.
But, I'd like to network this machine to my laptop. (The router has 4 ports,
by the way). The router's manual focuses almost completely on the VPN, not
on networking a couple of local machines.

Anyone have a web site or two they've found to be especially informative on
the subject of networking local machines? By the way, the laptop's running
WinME, and maybe XP pro in the future, but for now, I'm stuck with ME.

Good - I'm going to need it. You've probably seen some of the responses I've
written here when I've been impatient, and it's obvious the OP hasn't
cracked the instruction manual or tried the F1 (help) key. As tempting as it
is to ask a hundred questions and be spoon-fed the information, I can't do
it. :-)

Sooner or later you get past the point of letting those posts bother you. <g>

I lied. Here's a question:

Before the router, I was connected through my DSL modem (obviously), and I'm
running ZoneAlarm Pro. The zone is set for "internet" (no sharing of
resources with anyone). The other option is "trusted", used for a local
network. Once it's set that way, what keeps the world from sharing resources
on my 2-machine network???
