As far as setting up a wireless system to my other computer is concerned I
am a complete beginner could anyone give me advice on which system would be
the easiest to set up for a novice.
Thanks for any advice

Cheapest way is to install a wireless adaptor in each and use Ad-hoc mode.
Disadvantage is that it can be a pain to get working properly and whichever
PC has the internet connection has to be left on for the other one to get
internet access.

Option two would be to get a wireless Access Point for the main computer
with internet access (host computer) and a wireless adaptor for the other
one to set up a peer to peer network. Easier to set up and more stable but
again the host computer will have to be left on for the other one to get
internet access. (This is assuming you have a USB modem and a free Ethernet
Port in the host PC).

Option three is to get a wireless router wit a built in modem. PC's can
either be connected with a cable or by wireless adaptor. Advantage is
neither computer will have to be left on for the other one to get internet
access.
