Hi all,
In my lab-test I 've got the following configuration:
1 DC (windows server 2003) + primary Dns server
1 DHCP (windows server 2003) authenticated with AD
3 Windows Xp Pro sp2 (DHCP configured)
The primary DNS server is configured with an AD integrated zone related to
my AD domain (mydomain.local) with "secure only" enabled for dynamic Dns
updates.
Once my client Pc's are booted they are provided with the appropriated IP
addresses and their A and PTR resource records are dynamically registered in
the AD zone accordingly; everything seems to be O.k., but on checking the
ownership of the A and PTR records of the client PC's SYSTEM is displayed as
the owner.
Honestly I am little bit puzzled since I am not sure whether I 've
misconfigured some settings or I've misunderstood something about DDNS; in
fact on the basis of my DHCP settings I would have expected that the A
resource was owned by the client and the PTR resource by the DHCP, but as I
just mentioned SYSTEM is the only owner for both records.
Below are the options enabled under the DNS tab of my DHCP server:
Enable DNS dynamic updateds according to the settings below:
* Dynamically update DNS A and PRS recoreds only if requested by the DHCP
clients.
Discard A and PTR records when lease is deleted.
So my question is: is SYSTEM the correct owner or did I do something wrong
in configuring my DHCP?
Thanks in advance for your assistance
