If the actual position of your client is the issue then perhaps you
might try adjusting the antenna on the 520+ or even using an external
antenna (both units use the came connector/antenna).
I have a 520+ and a 900AP+ as well. When I first got them I was fooling
around attaching to a neighbor's Linksys and had the opportunity to try
the 900AP+ in client mode.
It of course does a site survey (in admin mode) but since it doesn't use
client software like the 520+ you lose the signal strength and quality
indicators.
With the indicators on the 520+ I was able to reposition the antenna for
the very best signal strength from the distant Linksys ... with the
900AP+ it was tough bannanas.
In order to get the "best" signal using the 900AP+ I had to set up large
packet sized pings .. and file transfers and adjust to eliminate packet
loss while this was in progress ... a real pain.
When I finished fooling around and set the 520+ back up as a client to
the 900AP+ it was simple to adjust the antennas on both while watching
the strength meter on the screen of the 520+ client machine.
