DWL800+ AP not connecting through

For work reasons, I'm living on the road for about the next two months, and
picked a hotel with a decent long-term rate *and* high-speed Ethernet Internet
access in each room. But having my laptop "on a leash" got boring, so I picked
up a D-Link DWL800 AP/Repeater, mainly for the small size and because I didn't
want another router to mess with. Set it up using a crossover CAT5 -- set up
WEP, channel, SSID, got a perfet wireless connection to my XP-Pro Inspiron,
and... nothing.
DHCP services don't seem to be passed on through. I can't get a dynamic IP
assigned to the Inspiron at all, and manually setting the IP to one that I know
is on the hotel's subnet doesn't do any good either. I've been able to run
multiple computers in one room at this hotel before, using a wired hub, so I'm
inclined not to believe that the hotel router has been set up to disallow
wireless nodes, but I'm a bit stuck. I've never had a problem like this
setting up wireless networks under similar conditions. Any suggestions on what
I can try next?

Let it get its own address via dhcp, then chase it down
either by asking whoever has access to the dhcp server or
just trying to connect to IP addresses adjacent to what
you have on the notebook computer without the wireless.

I don't think it will pass dhcp through unless it is in
the dhcp mode for itself (its own address..) too. Or,
at least that's how the DWL-900AP+ works.

It will pass the DHCP address through, if its set to AP mode... Anytime you
want to work on the settings of the AP, you'll need to be in the same subnet
as it however, either wireless or through the LAN connection... Resetting
it will put it back to: 192.168.0.30 if you get locked out...

Just be aware that an 800 does not have built-in DHCP services like the 900
does. So if you want to connect multiple wireless computers, it'll need a
router or a host that provides DHCP connectivity in front of it...

I have my DWL-900AP+'s setup as with a fixed IP address and all the
computers on the other side of it are using DHCP just fine.
I have 2 setup in bridge mode, the first is plugged into the router
the 2nd is plugged into my hub. I did not want to run a wire to the
hub because of its distance from the router and other difficulties
involved. Both 900AP+'s are setup with fixed IP addresses and the
computers thru the hub are all setup as DHCP. They can both see and
connect to any other computer on the network.

Yes I have 900's with static routes also, however if you look back at the
subject line you'll see that we are discussing the 800's. I have configured
800's with static routes as well, but they weren't behind DHCP. Guess I
should pull one from the box and try it with DHCP config, but I'll wait to
read what Skyfire has to say first... Thanks for that bit of wisdom
though...

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Do you know the IP addresses used by the hotel? My guess is the 800 and your
computer aren't on the same network. Connect your computer and see what IP
you're assigned and go from there.

Don't use a cross over cable - use a straight CAT 5 patch cable.
