I've downloaded the current driver for my card (Revision B), however after I
have installed it what Microsoft XP is reporting (D-Link AirPlus Extreme G
DWL-G650 Adapter properties) is a driver date of 5/2/2003 version 1.0.2.6
however on the website it reported 2.46 12/19/2003.

What should be reported by XP ?

Also after I installed the new driver the utility icon no longer worked
(always shows an X over the icon), however my connection is up and running -
how can I get this feature working with the new driver ??

5/2/2003 is the Microsoft driver. The latest driver is available on D-Link
website. You have to force Windows to install.

1. Download and extract
2. update the driver
3. Do not auto detect/search
4. Click "Have Disk"

The utility only works on the specific driver. You need to install the
utility software that comes with the driver.

try device manager > 1. uninstall it > 2. physically remove card > 3.
install new driverfrom the zip (make sure it the right one for right
revision, a, b & c all have different driver). > 4. plug the card back in,
it should detect and install

if driver version still report as 1.0.2 click on update driver in the
hardware properties and choose from list or specify location, choose dont
search > next , you should have a list there with same name, hopefully one
of it is the ver 2 you installed, trial and error this one from this list.

cheers

I just went thru the same problem myself. Here's the solution.

No need to do device uninstall or anything like that. Simply run the
setup.exe included with the new drivers TWICE in a row. The first time
you run it, it uninstall the drivers and the card. But it doesn't tell
you to run it again. You have to run it again. Don't reboot after the
first run as it will cause the card to be detected again and setup
with old drivers. You will keep going in circles. ==> Run the setup
twice in a row. Reboot. Card will be detected and AirPlus will be
working again. At that time, reboot again. It should be all fine now.
