Configuration:
Desktop: DWL-520+ running Linux 2.4.18 w/ Global Sys Tech clone driver (also TI
chipset, the GL-2422) and DHCP server.
Laptop: Windows ME on a Compaq Presario 1620.
1) Using DWL-650+, no problems whatsoever. DHCP works.
2) Using DWL-AG650, will not do DHCP to get address, even though selected in
"control panel", "network", "...AG650", "WINS Cfg." but "ipconfig /all" says
DHCP is off. In the D-link config program, selected only "11B" as allowed. The
desktop's ethernet packet monitor on "wlan0" shows no DHCP(bootp) queries while
using the AG card. "control panel", "system" shows that the card is working.
[In fact, the settings for both cards in "control panel", "network", "TCP/IP
options" are identical. Firmware for both cards reflects the downloadable
versions available on January 23, 2004 (last Friday) from Dlink's site.]
With two different cards, I cannot have the D-link management program run from
the start-up menu (but click on the appropriate program for each card, and have
to reboot to change cards - the scourge of Windows).
Is there something wrong with DHCP and the DWL-AG650, like at the driver level,
or does it seem to merely be my problem? The 11b+ card does show up in the AG
card's "heard" list. The D-Link management program does show a [OSI Network
level 1] connection to the desktop's ad-hoc network.
[I got the 650+ about 8 months before the G cards came out. I picked up the
AG650 recently because I'm now in more places that have upgraded than haven't.]
Trying to set a fixed IP (not what I want, but the only alternative to DHCP) did
not show a fixed IP address in "ipconfig /all" - so I suspect that there is
something wrong at the driver level despite the card "working" per the control
panel....
