Hi,

Running XP on a 2Mb DSL connection, I'm getting half the upstream I
should - it used to be around 240Kbs

Downstream 1926 Kbps (240.8 KB/sec) 2080 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 160 Kbps (20.0 KB/sec) 172 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Any ideas if it's something basic or a clue where to start?
TIA

what ISP, do you get the same from the bt_speedtest login and tester ?
is your exchange free of congestion (plusnet, metronet, samknows have
exchange checkers)

Correction; Plusnet shows amber for VP, Samknows has it as green.

that's likely to be your problem, isn't there usually a "last updated"
date. EFH were also using datastream which would make the VP data
irrelevant but congestion more likely do you know which you have ?

IPstream, definitely.

Is it likely to be congestion when speedtests done throughout the day
still return the same, low, upstream speed?

if the ISP and the bt_speedtest connection both give low speeds then
its either exchange contention or some issue with your connection.

Contention isn't usually a problem at 6am.

Look at the modem/router stats for errors
Use WinMTR or pingplotter to identify packet loss
Check you RWIN and MTU settings at
http://www.netmonitor.org/tools/ttest.php

Thanks Phil,

BT speedtest confirms a 2Mb connection, but doesn't test or at least
report Upstream speeds.
WinMTR doesn't work for me, just sits there sulking, but Pingplotter
returns 100% packet loss for all adresses.....?

There's no errors in the logfile.

Netmonitor gives:
Tweakable settings:
RWIN: 33360
Window scaling: YES (scaling factor: 2^0)
PMTUD: YES
Time stamping: NO
SACKS: YES
MSS requested: 1390
TTL remaining: 112

Results of download test:
Data bytes we sent: 261576 bytes
Data packets we sent: 189
Retransmitted data packets: 0
Transfer efficiency: 100%
Max packet size you sent (MTU): 1430
