Hi,
i'm having one problem setting up my home network using Dual NICs and
switch.

Win2k3 server (192.168.0.1)
NIC1 - ISP - receives IP info automatically from cable modem
NIC2 - internal - hardcoded ip (192.168.0.1) on 255.255.255.0 - goe
to a linksys switch
Using NAT/Router Firewall
Active Directory
I'm using DHCP with these options
003 Router 192.168.0.1
005 Name Servers 192.168.0.1
006 DNS Servers 192.168.0.1
015 DNS Domain Name (my FQDN is AGMTECH.dom)
DNS - automatically set to create A records for clients that reques
it
Internet connection is up and running

WinXP client
one NIC that is using the DHCP from the server and is obtaining leas
and ip info automatically.
Internet connection is up and running through the server.

Everything for the most part is working except i think i have a dn
problem, on the client i AM able to ping the server by name and ip bu
am not able to add it to the domain. internet is up and running w/ou
problems.
I keep getting "the network path cannot be found" when i try to add i
to the domain.
I confirmed on the workstation that it is using the correct ip for m
DNS server(192.168.0.1), DHCP is working etc

i went to the server to check DNS because i'm expecting to see the
record dynamically created for the client in the DNS forward looku
zone. (I set it up to automatically do this or i thought i did). I di
not see the A record in there at all.
At this point on the server, i am NOT able to ping the clien
workstation by name or IP address and i can't see that A record.

So i created the A record for the client myself in DNS and i stil
can't ping the client nor add the client to the domain. am i missing
dns suffix somewhere?

It appears that i have 2 problems here that (to me) seem to be cause
by the same issue?

i've been spinning my wheels for a while on this and can't figure i
out, one thing i haven't configured as i don't know and am not sure i
i need it is setting up a "Static Route" in the NAT configuration.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

A

It is not recommended to install DC and DNS on a multihomed computer. Otherwise, you may have a name resolution and connectivity issue. You may want to disable all connections to register A record on DNS except LAN. these links may help,
