Hi,

I have configured 2 NIC cards for a windows 2000 server machine. One
NIC is onbaord and the other one is connected on PCI slot.Among the 2,
one is for LAN and another one is for internet connection. While both
the cards are connectivity, I can surf internet without trouble; but
at the same not able to connect to local network. Both NIC's share
same IRQ; could it be the cause for the issue?

Any idea would be appreciated....

Thanx in advance.

Hello kones,

Problem is this kind of configuration, which is not the best solution. Better
use one NIC on the server connect to a switch, where also the router is connected.
Multihoming will create a lot of problems, mostly DNS, because of different
ip's. It is highly recommended to not use multihoming on Domain controllers.

You can only have one default gateway. Sounds like yours is set to the
internet-facing NIC. Add some static routes to reflect your LAN's IP
range. Use 'route /?' and 'route print'.

I would not recommend multihoming a DC. It will cause numerous issues
related to DNS registration and resolution. If you like, there are multiple
steps you can take that include registry changes to *force* it to work.
Otherwise, I would highly suggest to use an inexpensive Linksys (or
something better) to provide NAT services for internet connectivity and
disable one of the NICs or team your NICs.

If you want the steps to configure it, let me know.
