I currently have a PC and a notebook on a WLAN via a modem hub. I would like
to set up an alternative ethernet LAN which I would use for a gaming app.
that can be played between both computers. Is this feasible and if so is
there a particular setup procedure to follow?

Hi
If the two computers are connected to the same Internet connection and both
can use the Internet, you already have a LAN too, and you can use it to
connect between the two computers.
If you want to run local games you can, just follow what ever the game
instructions are.
If you want to Share Files, configure file sharing on both computers,

Hi Jack, thanks for your reply. I have already tried runnning the game via
the wireless LAN but no go. Game instructions don't help. I know someone
else who runs it OK via ethernet so that is my reason for the query.

Hi
Wireless is just a replacement to wire, thus almost every thing that works
with wire should work with Wireless.

Almost? Wireless connection due to environmental factors might be reduced to
very low Bandwidth that hinders some application. Since Wireless is
dependent on its additional software, there are rare instances that some
applications might not work due to software conflict. I do not know of your
system falls under these low probability occurrences.

If your Network can exchange files locally, games should work as well. Might
be you're your Software Firewall blocks local traffic, or that your games
need IP address adjustments ( http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html ).
