Dual antennas on D-link router

Hello group
The DI-774 from D-link is a tri mode dual band router that supports the
802.11a, b and g standard.
Since it has two external antennas, I wondered if one of them was for 2,4ghz
and the other for 5ghz, and which one that is.
I hope that you can help.
Thank you.

In diversity (dual) antenna system, one antenna is setup in the router
configuration as transmit antenna, but both antennas are used for receive,
one at a time. The system determines in real time which antenna provides the
strongest (receive) signal and picks that antenna, this means it can use the
same antenna for receive/transmit at one time.

Funny you should ask. I just had mine opened up last week to see what
it looked like inside. There are two Atheros chipset based mini-pci
cards in it, one for the 802.11A and the other for the 802.11B/G. The
"main" connector on each card is cabled to one of the antennas. I
couldn't tell you which one is which without taking a magnifying glass
to the Atheros chips to get the part numbers off of them and then
matching them up on the Atheros web site <grin>. The "aux" connector
on each card is cabled to a metal piece at one end of the case
providing the "diversity" antenna. This works much better than the
Linksys Dual Band A/B access point it replaced. It only had the one
cable from the "main" connector on each card to one of the antennas
and nothing connected to the "aux" connector. The D-Link has much
better range and handles the frequency changes much more smoothly as
the distance from the access point increases. Also the D-Link
supports the Atheros 108mbs Turbo Mode for 802.11A which works great
with the Atheros based 802.11A/B/G mini-pci card in my laptop.

To Oscar T Grouch
Thank you very much for your help.
My problem was, that I have bought two new 5ghz antennas, and that I didn't
know which of the four connectors on the inside of the router, I should
connect them to.
The new antennas each has a coverage of 120 degrees, and will not overlap
each other's cover area.
From what you tell me, I think that I must decide which one of the two
mini-pci cards is for 5ghz, and then connect both of the antennas to the
"main" connector on that one, and not on the "aux" connector.

Kind regard
