While researching how 802.11 works I came across an intriguing web-site
describing the origin of frequency-hopping:

Adds a whole new meaning to the expression "What goes around, comes
around" :-)

Hedy Lemarr's life had been one of intrigue in high places within the
German society before she and Antheil came up with the idea. A simple
Google search reveals much more. And Dave Hughes, mentioned in the
article, is very much still active in wireless internet access.
