Hi NG.

Yesterday i updated my Suse 8.0 box to 8.2. Everything works fine after
a little time of working. /etc/groups was lost....

One little problem exsits.

After the disconnetion by the Provider - 24h. The router does not
automatically reconnect.

There seems to be a new util. SMPPPD which was not installed on my old
box. Can some one tell me what to do. Or were to look.

Do if have to set up an ip-up call in ip-down script. If yes, how to.
The file seems a little bit complex.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you need configfiles tell me

Thx.

T.W.

You should use the ppp option "persist" and may be "holdoff".
Persist tries to bring up the ppp connection after waiting
the specified hold-off time. man pppd for further information.

I don't know where and with which tool you need to configure
this under SuSE. However the brute force method is to put
the option into /etc/pppd/options file.

No this is not necessary.

Thanks for the quick help.

I wrote persist in the options.ppp0. Tommorrow we'll see if it does what
it should.

Thanks in advance

The options are read by pppd on start-up. So it is necessary
to kill and restart pppd for the options to take effect.

To test this you don't need to wait 24 hours, just kill pppd,
add the options, start pppd, plug-out network cable, wait until
the interface goes down and plug-in the network cable. If the
option works, the interface should come up automagically.
