Firewall? - AOL client software uses (or used) a specific IP port
(5190).

A work colleague has Wanadoo ADSL. Surks the net OK, but cannot
view/retrieve his AOL or Yahoo e-mail when on-line.
Using an AOL Dial-up connection he CAN retrieve his AOL and Yahoo e-mail.
His Laptop is set-up with Wanadoo and has never had any AOL software
installed but still cannot retieve AOL and Yahoo e-mail but can cruise the
WWW ok?
Has anyone any thoughts as I am a newbie to ADSL and do not use these
service providers.

How did he retrieve AOL and Yahoo e-mail previously to getting ADSL? I
know the AOL client can run over any connection so mail can be retrieved
that way. Not sure if it has a POP service. Yahoo is webmail unless he's
paying to have POP access.

Some ISP's don't allow use of another ISP's mail service (other than
Webmail), more so with PAYG dial up, but less common with Broadband ISP's
