DSL-604+ Wifi throughput

Hi all,

I use a wireless network at home, based around a DLink DSL-604+
access point/router/DSL modem. It works great for our needs, and I get
pretty good signal strength all around our Edwardian house.

However, when doing file transfers from my girlfriend's PC to my own
(both WiFi - my PC has a standard 802.11b card in it, whilst other one
has a 22mbp/s card), I notice that I get a maximum of about 180-200KB/sec, which
doesn't quite tally even with the real-world 7-8Mbp/s I've seen quoted for
WiFi.

Am I getting my figures in a twist, or am I not quite getting what I
should be out of my kit?

G.

I believe (because I read it somewhere) that a wifi system falls back to the
lowest throughput rating of the lowest cards involved in the network, so
although the kit might be partially capable of 22, if there's an 11 in there
somewhere, then it's all going to go up to 11 as far as operating is concerned.

Agreed, but wasn't quite my issue; the throughput I'm getting isn't even
up to any real-world 11mbps kit figures I've seen quoted.
