The DSL300G+ works in a very strange way (IMHO).
Initially it has address 192.168.0.1 and it gives
your PC 192.168.0.2 via DHCP.
Once you have got it to authenticate with your ISP, it grabs the
address which the ISP allocates via PPP then broadcasts it to
your PC via DHCP. Then it appears to allocate itself the next
IP up (!). So if you are 1.2.3.4 it will be 1.2.3.5, notwithstanding
that belongs to someone else. So you will see 1.2.3.5 as your
default gateway. It also issues a mask of 255.255.255.0. It then
appears to proxy-arp for *all* addresses on that subnet bar the
one it has issued to your PC, so it just kind of works.
Beware though it remembers the Mac address of your PC so if you
swap it with another it will start giving out 192.168.0.2 again
until you log in to the admin page successfully.
The upshot of all this is that you are supposed to connect a
single PC to the DSL300G+, configure it with a browser running
on that PC, then connect to the Internet from that PC.
When they say it's for single PC use, they really mean it.
But if you substitute a NAT router for the PC, it should still
work since it should see all connections coming from the router
due to the NAT. Just make sure you don't use 192.168.0.x for
the router internal address range!!!!
