dropping connection regularly

I am connected to a linksys wireless router at home. My connection to the
internet drops frequently but my internal network and the status of my
wireless connection is fine. I'm usually on MS Messenger when this happens.

My internal network consists of a cable modem > router > network consisting
of serving dishing out DHCP and DNS information internally > internal
Wireless Router acting as a switch/WAP.

If I stop and start the Wirelss Zero Configuration service, my internet
connection is restored. Also, if I keep a persistent PING going to an
external site, I don't get nearly as many drops.

This is a known issue ... I am revisiting it after months of going back to a
wired connection.

From your description it sounds like an ISP network problem to my mind. So
nothing you can do on your end other than changing to another ISP. Starting
and stopping the Wireless Zero configuration would rebuild your ISP
connection, so this would wake up the ISP connection. There are some
programs that will continually ping an address designed to keep an ISP from
putting your connection to sleep. But using these kind of programs maybe
frown upon by your ISP.

If I was having the same issue with my connection when it is attached by a
network cable, I'd have to agree with you. The fact that it's only an issue
when I'm connecting through my wireless makes me think the Wireless config.
has got to be the cause.

Well you are the one that said, "...my internal network and the status of my
wireless connection is fine." I'm basing my answer on what you are telling
me. You never said until now that it's only happening on your wireless
network.

So what is actually happening?

Have you and someone else actually been using MSN Messenger, one wirelessly
and one wired, and had the wirelessly connected one loose the connection to
MSN? While the wired one stays connected? After you have lost the connection
to MSN, can you still open web pages on the wireless computer, can you click
on reconnect and reestablish the connection? Or must you disable the WZC
service and re-enable it? Ever taken this wireless computer to a hotspot and
connected there, does it show this same behavior using a different wireless
router?
