dropped pings

Hello,

We have a problem with one of our Windows 2003 server sp2 servers that has
been missing pings intermittently for the last few months. It will probably
miss two ping replies out of 20. The server is on the dmz and I am pinging
through the firewall from the LAN, but the firewall has not been an issue
before. Any advice on what may be going on, or how to investigate this
problem? All the physical connections look fine.

Thanks.

I have seen this and other odd behavior by the Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Scalable Networking Pack release, which is included in windows 2003 server
SP1 and as a seperate download for Win2003 SP1.

Link to info about Scalabale networking pack:

You can try to turn off this functionality by following the steps below and
see if it helps your situation.

To turn off TCP Chimney by using the Netsh.exe tool, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
2. At the command prompt, type Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED, and then
press ENTER.

Thanks for the suggestion. I disabled the TCP chimney, but it did not help,
am still getting the intermittent dropped replies.
