Dreaded "The list of servers..."

Newbie here.

I'm trying to kill a weekend by learning something about networking. I
have a small network running XP Pro and Windows Server 2003 (R?) with a
domain.

On one XP Pro client computer I've installed MS Virtual PC and I've
created a Virtual Machine running Windows Sever 2003. It is this virtual
computer that gives this error:

"The list of servers for this workgroup is not available"

when I try to browse the network from Windows Explorer.

I'm not running a firewall on this virtual computer, though I have a
LinkSys router with firewall on the network (I've not played with any of
it's settings). The other Windows 2003 Server _can_ browse the server
running in Virtual PC. I can browse the web from the virtual server.

I've also checked that this is not the Master Browse Server (the other
Win 2003 server is).

What have I missed? Why can't I browse the network from the virtual server?

Oh, and by the way, I am able to login to the network via the domain
server. So no problems there.

TIA.

Can you ping each other by name? Do you have DNS or enable WINS/NetBIOS over TCP/IP?

Computer Browser
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The list server for this workgroup is not currently available." ...

Thank you for the reply. I am able to ping from each computer to every
other computer by name. The DNS is enabled, on the one server (not the
virtual). Wins is installed, but disabled on the virtual server.

I'm not sure about NetBIOS. Where do I check that? I don't see it listed
as a service in Computer Management on either server.

Thanks for the link. I had not come across this one before. I'll check
the suggestions about the browser.
