Just been reading the review of the Draytek Vigor 2600we on adslguide.org.
It indicates that this model is the business, but reading the forums, it
appears some people have had trouble using it with WEP.

Anyone on here got one of these running WEP?

Any advice (good or bad) on this router is useful, as I was going to order
one this week, and now I can't decide!

Just need to choose the PCI cards to go in the PC's now...

Thanks in Advance

I've had one running 64 bit WEP for months now - no problems. I've also put
wireless access control on - that way only MAC addresses you specify are
allowed on the wireless network.

There were 2 issues that caused WEP problems on the 2600 as far as I can
tell.

1/ some older models had faulty wireless boards, SEG swap these out.

2/ There was a firmware issus. Firmware 2.5 (latest) sorts this out.

I use 128Bit WEP on my 2600we, and it works fine. (bought the unit a
couple of months ago).

I don't think there is any reason to be concerned. A few users had
problems, most of them were sorted with the latest firmware.

From my experience the best advice if you decide to buy is don't consider
getting it from broadbandbuyer.uk . Mine was unreliable from day 1.
Initially broadbandbuyer offered to issue an RMA return. Having tried all
the firmware upgrades and failed to understand the garbled and supposed
assistance from Draytek and used the Draytek forums I gave up and requested
a replacement/return. broadbandbuyer.uk then refused to reply to countless
reminders and eventually I had barclaycard reverse the transaction.
Not exclusively it constantly lost the signal, and periodically changed WEP
settings - and in short was completely unreliable and unusable.
broadbandbuyer.uk then returned my return and it is still sitting here...
all £300 + with 3 radio cards.
It gets my vote for an incomplete product unsatisfactory for the stated
purpose with disasterous after sales service.

Thanks for that. Good to know as this company was on the shortlist for me!

Out of interest, what radio cards were you using?

No problems here. I've got 128bit WEP, hidden SSID and MAC based
lockdown all working with the 3COM X-Jack wireless card I've got in my
laptop. I needed to install the 3COM applications as well as the
drivers before it would work with WEP though (no idea if this is the
norm or not), but apart from that no problems at all - I'm very
impressed with the range I get too, excellent card if you have a
laptop without onboard wireless.

My only regret is that Draytek didn't ship the 54Mb/s version of the
router a month or two sooner, but I can't complain too much since I
seldom saturate the 11Mb/s connection and I'm fully wired for Ethernet
anyway.

Bought one in May, never missed a bit since.

Got it from broadbandbuyer, no problems then, but have had trouble with them
since regarding items
which the list, but haven't got a stock, then don't respond to emails and
always reply 'next week' to calls on their rip off 0870 number.
Regards,
Martin

Netgear MA311 11Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter. Real quirky as WEP couldn't be
entered in ascii as stated but only in Hex - and then all hell broke loose.
