Draytek Vigor 2600 setup problems

We've just bought the Draytek for our small office network
to replace the frog modem we got from our ISP. Our
network is on the 192.168.0.xxx IP addresses on subnet
255.255.255.0

When I connect the Draytek to our network, be it either an
underfloor cable, a remote switch, or the main switch, I cannot
reach the Draytek on 192.168.1.1 and the set-up CD fails to
connect to it - "Failed to load settings."

On the device itself, I'm connecting the RJ-45 cable to the 'P1'
socket and the green light next to it stays on, but the 'Act' (activity)
light keeps blinking.

I'm new to routers (and even to LAN's :-/ ) but I thought this would
be easy to setup. Anyone offer any suggestions as to what I'm
doing wrong?

TIA.

Temporarily change the IP of one of your PCs to
192.168.1.10. Configure the Vigor to have an IP
of 192.168.0.1 (instead of 192.168.1.1), turn off
DHCP serving in the Vigor if you don't need it,
reboot the Vigor, return the IP of the PC to its
original setting and that should be fine.

Oh, if you already use 192.168.0.1 for one of your
PCs use a different IP in the 192.168.0.x subnet.

You will also need to tell all PCs that the new IP
of the router is the default gateway.

That sounds OK.

As Alastair says, you will need to temporarily give one of the PCs
a static IP of (say) 192.168.1.10

Then in a command window, type 'ping 192.168.1.1'

Couple of tips: Make sure you save off a configuration. You can do this
once
you have set it all up from the web page of the router.
Keep a small hardback notebook - record all settings, passwords and the
helpdesk number of your ISP.

Switch off 'management from the Internet'

If you think the router is somehow fouled up, there is a factory rest
button.
WARNING - you won't want to do this once the router is setup,
unless you have a configuration file saved as above (and the settings
written down!)
Then you could reset and restore from the file.
