I got a network built as followed.
3 PC's in combination with a Draytek Vigor 2600 Router. This router is
connected to the internet with a Power ADSL account. This is working well.
The vigos has 4 LAN ports.
I want to expand this network for 2 laptops with a Wireless Access Point of
Sitecom and ofcourse Wireless Network Adapters of Sitecom.

I connected the Access Point on the 4th LAN port of the Vigor.
The configuration is set so that the Access Point get its IP-number from the
DHCP server of the Vigor. In this case 192.168.1.10 - 14 (the vigor has
IP-number 192.168.1.1)

The Access Point is not recognized by the Vigor (the led is orange). The
Access Point can be configured by a pc in the network however.

The laptops are not visible in the network (not in the wired and not in the
wireless)

What am i doing wrong ???????

Should i connect the wireless network (laptops and Access Point) as a
different network to the wired network. If so, how ???

Thanks in advance for any help :-)

I'm surprised that the access point can be configured to accept an IP addresss
from a DHCP server. I don't think mine can (Belkin), or at least I've never
found a setting for it. Have you tried disabling DHCP in the Draytek and
giving everything manual fixed IP addresses? Are you running a software
firewall, nad if so, have you checked that local access is permitted for the
IP address of your access point? (In Norton Firewall, all local access is
disabled by default, and you have to enable the addresses or range of
addresses you want to use).

I'll assume that you know how to configure each machine's O/S so that each
machine on the network can be seen and share resources. If you don't know
how to do it, then search Google on how to do *MS File and Print Sharing*.

Thanks for your reply...

The settings (IP-number and sub-mask and so on) can be disabled in the
Access Point setup. It will act as an DHCP client.
My firewall (McAfee) shouldn't interfere with the local IP. (192.168.1.14)
It doesn't for the other IP's in the same range (192.168.1.10 up to 13)

I''ll give your suggestion of fixed IP's a try...

Cheers

Thanks for your reply.....

Yes the (network) settings of the laptops are ok. The problem i talked about
is at my (small) office. I use the same settings of the laptop(s) for my
home-network and they work fine there. I only use a wireless network at
home. The problem is to get the access point to work with the fixed network.

I am in a similar predicament, and got it to work by manually entering
everything. I'm still somewhat a newbie, so let me know (whomever you
are reading this) if something doesn't make sense.

Modem connects to Linksys router's WAN port. Netgear access point
(sucky wgr614v2 wireless router acting as access point due to it's
slower than dial-up VPN pass-through capability) LAN port connected to
Linksys router's LAN port.

On getting all the computers on the same subnet...
Turned off DHCP on the Netgear so that hopefully the Linksys would
assign all the local IP addys. This didn't work. The wired clients
get IP addys from the linksys, but not the wireless clients going
through the Netgear.

In my case, I couldn't get the Netgear to get an IP addy from the
Linksys. Manually entering an IP addy in the same subnet as the
Linksys didn't work, probably because the Netgear is so buggy.
Changing the Linksys LAN IP addy to be on the same subnet as the
Netgear was successful (now I can ping the Netgear in addition to the
Linksys from the wired clients). However, still no luck on Linksys
DHCP assigning IP addys to the wireless clients.

On the wireless client:
click: Start | Run | command | ipconfig
All the old info is listed, including Netgear IP addy for default
gateway
type: ipconfig /release 1 (1 cause I have two NICs 0 and 1)
All zeros
type: ipconfig /renew 1
Long delay... still All zeros
Now situation worse as I cannot even ping the Netgear from the
wireless client.

In TCP/IP properties for the wireless NIC I manually typed in:
IP addy outside of scope of the Linksys DHCP server, but in same
subnet
Linksys IP addy for default gateway
ISP DNS server IP addys (without this I was networked, but without
internet access)

I would prefer to use the DHCP server on the Linksys so that if I take
my laptop somewhere else I don't have to be changing stuff manually.
