I'm just about to buy a Draytek Vigor 2600we, but just before I do,
does any one have any experience of the range of this in the Real World?

I live in a 1930's brick built house, and the signal needs to travel through
one floor and 1, maybe 2 walls.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm using a Draytek Vigor 2600We for some months, it replaced the
Draytek Vigor 2600 I was using since late last year.
The Draytek is in a very small room under the roof on the third floor of
my 1960's house, your 1930's one might be better quality.
It's there together with my two main computers that are both connected
via cable to the Draytek.
I use it with a network on 4 computers and connecting to Internet via
1024/512 ADSL on each of them.
A Toshiba laptop and an older PII desktop I connect with 802.11b.
The desktop is just one room away (Belkin Wireless Desktop Network
Adapter F5D7000df) and always has excellent reception.
The laptop (Sweex Wireless PCMCIA Card LC500020) I move sometimes
through the whole house, two floors lower, and garden.
At most places I have good reception and can contact the other computers
on the network and Internet very well.
I can recommend the 2600We!

I can recommend the Draytek. I have the 2600W version, and can connect via
my USB network card on my laptop from some 200m away outside with the router
inside in the airing closet. The ouside walls are reinforced concrete. You
can also buy inexpensive RP-SMA antennas to boost range further still.

You could be waiting a very long time, they often don't answer emails and if
you call their 0870 number you get put on hold, then told they expect stock
next week, then next week,....
Any way the extra speed of 54Mbs only apply between your own computers, so
unless you need to transfer gigabyte files in a hurry, there is no point
waiting to pay more money then you have to.

As it happens you may have trouble getting hold of the 2600We too,
but mine hasn't missed a bit since May install.
Regards,
Martin

They may do. However my order placed with them on 17/10/2003 has yet
to be delivered. They charged my Visa card on the same day and have
sent three e-mail since outlining delays to shipment.

Draytek sent their dealers an e-mail outlining the delays. It
includes this little gem:-

"While the ADSL line installation continues to grow, it is a cherished
time for all of you to sell more DrayTek Vigor2600 series ADSL routers
in the UK."

I am promised my router today. We shall see.

Have you spoken with Tim Bugg, he may be able to speed things up a little.

Ironically it was from Tim's e-mail to me that I lifted the quote.

Hmm, I myself nor the company I work for have had any problems with Zion.
This is a first, will have to look more closely at them.
