Downloading problems

I just installed a wireless router (linksys) which is attached to a DSL
modem. I've configured all of my home computers to connect to the router.
However, I cannot download certain files. For example, I was unable to
download the latest Ipod firmware update from Apple. Executable files for
some reason do not download, and no warning message appears. I've changed
security settings and tried temporarily disabling the firewall but that
hasn't worked. What am I missing?
