I cannot seem to get our DOS clients connected to our Windows 2003 servers.
Is there any updated clients available, or any issues anyone knows about?
Would love to hear your feedback. Thanks much!

Disable the following security policy on your server:

Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\
Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)

I had the same problem DC had. After trying Matthias' method, the error
message changed from "Access Denied" to "Error 2240: The user is not allowed
to logon from this workstation".

Then I changed the user logon workstations to "All" and it still didn't work.

At the same time, I tried to connect a W95 PC to the W2003 server and the
server icon showed up on the W95 PC and the w95 icon showed up on the server.
However I could only access w95 from the server by mapping, but not the other
way around -- on the W95 PC I got the Error 2240-like message when I tried to
click on the server icon.

This is a big issue for me -- I would appreciate any help on this. DC and
Matthias -thank you very much.

Wow - Windows95. I don't know the answer for sure Shane but the KB links
below will show you a lot of places to look. Windows 2003 by default has a
lot of restrictive security options enabled that probably are causing the
problem. If you have not tried the Directory Services Clients yet, test it
on one computer first to see if it helps. It may help even if you are not
using an Active Directory domain.--- Steve

Can you install a directory services client on a DOS machine via DOS?

No, not on DOS.

Here's the issue that I am aware of. It also applies to DOS and Linux/Unix
as far as I know even though they aren't mentioned in the article.

811497 - Error Message When Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 Client
Logs On to Windows Server 2003 Domain

Thanks to all who responded, I start to have some clue. Here I'd like to
briefly summarize the information I gathered as to what to do to make my DOS
and 95 clients work. Please comment --

1. to make w95 client work without diabling SMB Signing, install w95 DS
Client Pack from W2000 Server CD-ROM \clients\win9x folder.

2. to make DOS client work, SMB signing has to be diabled (win95 client
should work too, without DS Client). 2 settings changes are involved:

a. disable Microsoft Network Server: digitally sign communications
(always) in Active Directory Users and Computers/Domain
Controllers/Preoperties/Group Policy/Edit -- Computer Configuration/Windows
Settings/Local Policies/Security option.

b. then in the Details pane, diable Domain member: Digitally encrypt or
sign secure channel data (always).

My sincere thanks to DC, Matthias, Steven L Umbach, and Todd J Heron!
