Apologies for posting on topic not directly related to this newsgroup,
but I feel the urgency of situation rather warrants this.

International Foundation for Victims of Terror Acts is gathering
donations to be sent to the families of victims of the. This
organization is an IRS-recognized US Public Charity and transfers 100%
of donations *directly* to the families, with no administrative
overhead. As of sept. 4, hundreds of people already made their
contributions.

Please go to moscowhelp.org to learn more and contribute. Also, please
let your friends - online or otherwise - know about moscowhelp.org -
every dollar counts.

thank you
-nikita
PS. I am not affiliated with moscowhelp.org, just a concerned person
wanting to help

This is false. Visit the site and read the IRS letter for yourself. There is
a PDF copy of a letter from the IRS, which may or may not be legitimate,
that says this organization's status is accepted at face value but the IRS
is awaiting further information. It is NOT a "US Public Charity".

Good luck backing up this claim.

As is true of all such appeals, everyone who reads this appeal should
proceed very cautiously.

Paul,

You are absolutely correct in stating that those who choose to help
through this foundation should "proceed very cautiously" - online fraud
is very common. However to support their case, I'd point out that the
same IRS letter states that the Foundation "will be treated as a
publicly supported organization" until October 31, 2006. Moreover, web
site of Embassy Of Russian Federation in the US,
http://www.russianembassy.org on its home page has a banner pointing to
the foundation's website, http://moscowhelp.org.

I recognize that certain level of assumption and trust is required of
those who choose to help by making a donation, and I suppose i can never
offer irrefutable proof of their legitimacy. Scandals surrounding
mismanagement of relief funds even by the UN and related orgs have been
widely covered. However, I chose to believe that moscowhelp.org really
is trying to help victims and made a donation and I hope many others
will too.

I invite you to go to moscowhelp.org and read about the foundation and
make up your own mind. also, feel free to call them and ask questions,
they are pretty good about answering the phone.

Thank you for your support.

I think it's about time anyone who practices Islam start learning from their
disaffected "parishoners" and start cleaning house internally. Starting
with the likes of Al-Sadr and working back through Bin Laden.
String those fuckers up like they do to innocent people, then maybe your
religion won't be associated so strongly with the fuckers. Hopefully Russia
won't be quite so benevolent in their dealings with the fuckers as the US
government must be so as not to offend anyone. Find their safe houses and
make examples of everyone in them. Sorta like the "wedding party" the US
broke up last spring.
This incident shows they have NO qualms about hurting innocents.

Although your cause may be worthy, please realise that there are more
appropriate media channels for charity fund-raising. If everyone who
wanted to raise money for a good cause posted to every newsgroup they
found, the function of the newsgroup as an efficient exchange of highly
directed, technical information would cease to exist. Just imagine if
well-meaning organisations and individuals began soliciting money to help
the innocent victims of all of the world's conflicts - from Palestinian
widows whose children have been 'liquidated' by Israeli soldiers, to the
families of over 15000 Iraqi and Afghani civilians murdered by American
bombs. Please understand that we cannot allow the newsgroups to stray
off-topic or (heaven forbid) become politicised.

It's odd how a plea to not politicise a newsgroup can contain heavily
politicised language.
