Domain Name Questions

Right now we have a dynamic IP and are using no-ip.com to
register a free domain name in the form
<domainname>.redirectme.net. My local domain name is in
the form <domainname>.local. I'm thinking about getting a
real domain name now though (not sure if I will get a
static IP or not yet). I will be running a web server, ftp
server, and email server (exchange 2003) with it. Anyways,
my question is what will I need to change if anything on
my Windows 2003 domain controllers if I get a domain name
registered? I'm looking at two possibilities. One is a
domain name with the same name as the local domain (in the
form <domainname>.net). Another domain name I'm looking at
getting though is completely different. Will it be easier
to reconfigure my servers for one versus the other? Thank
you for your help in advance.

You won't change anything in your local AD domain name - you can't really
change it if there's Exchange in the picture anyway, and you don't need to.
The only thing you'll need to do is make adjustments to your recipient
policy in Exchange, and create the appropriate public DNS records for
yournewdomain.com to receive e-mail on your server.

There is no relationship between your AD Name and what name you are known by
publicly. Two different worlds.
