I know I can use the whois command, and others, but is it possible to
download a text file of all registered domains? I am not a spammer, this is
for a project I am working on.

AFAIK if the dns is well configure you can't (obviously if the dns doesn't
belong to you...)

No, you can't.

There are multiple organizations that manage different top level
domains, and the only people that they will _all_ give zone files to
are those that run official root servers.
