I have aW2K server (domain controller) with 2 workstations XPPro and
W2KPro. This setup has been running for months (longer) without problem.

I now suddenly have a problem whereby the XP box shows the (Windows cannot
connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down....' .
The W2KPro box logs in just fine. I also noticed that I can no longer manage
the XPPro box from the server as I get a 'Access Denied' error.

I would say that I have not changed anything (I into Databases not Networks)
, at least not intentionally.

Could anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Start with connectivity tests such as ping. Attempt to
ping the DC from the problem client first by tcp/ip address
then by name . If you can ping by tcp/ip address you
most likely can rule out NIC, cable, routing. Next open
a dos prompt and run nslookup. This will tell you whether
your DNS is working properly.

Ping works in both directions (server-client, Client-Server). The Domain
controller is there as the W2K Pro box logs in just fine.
