Domain controller cannot browse network but the other one is fine.

I have a 2003 domain which was working fine until a power cut caused some
mayhem.

After rebooting the domain controller it lost it's ability to browse the
network - I started getting messages '\\Servername is not accessible. You
might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. The
account is not authorized to log in from this station'

All other servers and domain controllers can browse just fine - it seems to
be just this one that can't connect to anything - although it does accept
connections.

I am at a loss as to what the problem could be - or even if they are related.

DNS appears to be ok and all servers are on the latest service packs (SP1
for 2003 , SP2 for XP and SP1 for Exchange 2003). Windows firewall is
disabled for the purposes of testing and I have Mcafee AV software.

Any suggestions - other than to rebuild the domain!

Does it still point to itself (and only itself) for DNS in the config of the
Nic(s)?

Yes.

I have added another DC which worked fine for about 30 minutes and then
started having the same problems.

Can't for the life of me see why one DC can browse the whole network but the
other two can only browse the other DC's...

:-(

Incidently, if I do a new view to any of the machines the DC cannot connect
to I get :

System Error 5, Access is Denied

All I can think of at the moment is to start scanning through the event logs
on all the DC's. You are going to have to develope some "evidence" to go on
so it isn't just a guessing game.

Hi Funkyd,

Thanks for posting here.

From your post, my understanding of this issue is: You cannot browse
network from a DC after a power cut and then reboot. If this is not
correct, please feel free to let me know.

In this case, you may check the following items:

1. Can you ping the target machine using its IP?

2. If yes, please try to access the target box using \\IPaddress. Is it
successful?

3. If yes, please try to access the target box with UNC. Is it successful?

3. Can the problematic server access the share on itself?

4. On the problematic domain controller(s), please check the following four
registry values, you may change their value to 0 to test this issue:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\lanmanworkstation\param
eters

enablesecuritysignature
requiresecuritysignature

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\lanmanserver\parameters

enablesecuritysignature
requiresecuritysignature

Please try the suggestions above and let me know the results at your
earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Tom Che
