I have an existing network set up that has no wireless. I would like
to replace the current router with a new D-Link DIR-625. What I was
wondering is, could I power the 625 and connect it to a laptop with an
ethernet patch cable and set it up with log in, passwords, encryption
type and all that before I place it into the loop? Have it preset, so
to speak, so I just have to plug it in, turn everything on, and away
we go. I realize there will be some tweaking to be done, but does this
sound like it will work?

I'm trying to keep from to long of an interruption of service on the
current setup. Any thoughts? Thank you.

It will need an ip address but it may just work like you suggest with
a cable to/from the laptop. I don't know, never tried it

Yes, that's exactly what I do when I'm replacing or upgrading
equipment at a customer site.

Thanks both of you! Worked like a charm! Sooooo much easier when you
don't have anyone breathing down your neck about getting their network
back up and running. Thanks again.
