Does new BT line tuck you up for 12 months?

If I had another line fitted from brand new purely for ADSL and went on
bare-bones line rental only with BT, do I commit to a minimum term?

What if I had an inactive line and re-connected that? Am I committed
again?

Assuming I am committed, what happens if I then order a broadband
package which includes line rental, eg Orange Home Max?

You can't do this until the 12 months is up unless you pay BT a fat fee to
cancel.

what fat fee? surely just the balance of the 12 month contract? (which
in my son's case last year they didn't charge)

Probably

Jon,

Would it be possible to do the following?

Have the inactive line reconnected for the telephone (albeit with a
different number) and keep the 'old' line for broadband?

By doing this, all you would need to do then to change to Orange is to
obtain a MAC number and transfer over - with Orange paying BT the line
rental as part of your package, as I presume they would normally do? This
is presuming that you are out of any contract period with your existing ISP.

I know nothing about the practicalities of doing such a thing, but it may
well be worth finding out about this through the BT or Orange sales
departments.

Why not?

Qualify your statement please by giving good, sound reasons as to why you
would prefer to stay with your ISP rather than change to Orange - presuming
that you have experienced the Orange broadband service at some time?

We've got a new one now or haven't you noticed.

Anyway what Graham was trying to imply is that Orange don't have a very good
'press', whether it's totally trus or not is another matter.
