Afternnon punters. I've recently delevoped an unhealthy interest in
broadband technology and the village where I live is soon to have it's
exchange upgraded. I was wondering what the exchange builiding/housing would
look like as the village is very small and (of all the buildings i'm aware
of) none would seem (to me at least) to be the said exchange.

TIA

Bricks, a door, and possibly a window or two?
Probably a big sign outside saying something like BT Exchange.

May not even be in your village, but in one of the neighbouring ones. But
they range from little 'chicken shed' affairs to rather larger brick built
buildings. Keep your eyes open & just look & see where the BT vans are
parking on a regular basis...

There used to be a website which listed the exact locations of all the UK's
telephone exchanges, which could pinpoint them to about a hundred yards or
so.

Whatever happened to that?

Pete.

The exchange in this village looked like a small, brick-built domestic
garage, big enough for one car. Pitched roof. Window high-up.

From the uk.telecom archives
"It's a shame then that BT exchanges all (well, lots) have postal
addresses and postcodes listed in the Postal Address Book (under
Organisations, British Telecom).

Most are listed as "Telephone Exchange", some just as "Exchange" and
some as "Automatic Telephone Exchange". Some places are just listed as

addresses."

I also found a couple of references to url's for bt exchange
locations, they all seem to have expired.

Don't know about England but it only lists 7 for the whole of Scotland. No
wonder we have a problem getting broadband ;o)

Steven.
