Register mac addresses. I am going to fit a new motherboard at my father's
house later today and remembered that a few years ago you had to register
the mac address before it will let you on.

Blue Yonder. I tried to connect my laptop to my father BY connection and it
wouldn't access the net. I found out that you had to register each new mac
address (max of 5) everytime you added a new computer to the connection.

Get a router, register the routers MAC and never worry about this problem
again.

Confirmed ... no need to to register mac, although power off the cable
modem and should be fine on power up with new card

No, this was done away with in July last year when we replaced the
then Internet provisioning system with a new one.

I'd have thought provisioning system was a relatively plain English
term.
