Hey there!

I installed an older router - a Link Sys DI-704(purchased about 2
years ago) to my 2 home computers (both fast w/OS's XP Pro and Home).
Connectivity between the two computers is great although there are
definite lags when connecting to web sites not to mention that many
times pictures don't load on the sites. A refresh fixes this half the
time. Win security settings are all the same as before. More often
than not only one, and my main, computer is up....

Is the router such old tech that a newer one would do better? That's
all I can think of although it doesn't seem right since there is only
ONE computer connected thru the router to the internet 95% of the
time... Not like mult comp's are vying for resourses...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, but only by a small amount known as latency.
Inexpensicve Routers and Ethernet Switches will tend to have higher latency than more
expensive usnits.
