Hi there,
I'm not a total n00b, but i'm no expert either. A buddy of mine came
over and installed our copy of windows server 2003. I have a couple of
questions....

a) I do not have a static IP, so what is the best way to have access to
files on the server when i'm not at the office.
b) If i want to logon from my laptop through a wireless connection..is
this possible? I would think it would be difficult since the network
is WEP protected. The server is connected to a Netgear wireless g
router.

Any advice would be great.

a) try Dynamic DNS (DDNS).
b) If they are in the same subnet and the can ping each other, you should be able to share each other. WEP has no thing to do with the sharing.

Well thanks ... that helped...

A) I have got it working through DynDNS. That at least allows me
remote access.
B) The wireless clients seem to login ... sort of. Okay now on to my
new problems.

#1With remote access...is there anyway to get it so that me or any of
the other employees can access the files without having to login....
the best i can think of is to get like serv-u and setup an FTP or
something.

#2The wireless clients take FOREVER to actually login. Anyway to speed
this up? Also, they seem to loose their "status" periodically. I
don't know how to explain it except that mapped drives often return to
the status of "Disconnected" and my user name on windows shows up
instead of my display name...for example> John Smith changes back to
jsmith (this is at the top of the start menu if that makes any sense).

This isn't recommended since security issues arises.

Try updating your router's firmware. If it loses the status periodically,
what is the signal strength? If it's "low", then I'm not surprised. If it's
low, get a wireless range extender
(http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=267&sec=0).
