I have a linksys befsr41w router. Do I have to use the linksys wireless
adapter card in the router or can I use another brand?

I have a cheap one by Xteresys 802.11b but it does not seem to work or
light up. Before I start messing with the configurations I was wondering if
maybe I have the wrong card?

Thanks,
GB

Possibly?

I have tried different branded cards in AP's,

Netgear seem to use X-Com 325's in their DG824M's no other card I have tried
works in it, I have also tried another card brand in the Compaq WL410, that
didnt work either, it uses the WL110 Lancard in that.

Which implies to me that the software inside the AP is burnt in to the Eprom
which is specific to the card that the manufacturer uses. There are cards
out there using the same chipset/drivers under different brand names,
however, my experence upto now is, even then it may not work..eg Orinoco ver
Compaq WL110, as Compaq seem to have changed the firmware to sute their
needs, I could be wrong here but I am learning.

Regards
Alan

Well their tech support emailed me back quickly and said that I do need to
use a linksys wpc11 card version 1, 2.5, or 3. Of course I went out an
bought one and it was version 4 so it didn't work either with my older
router. Now to find a version 3...
