what do i do when link drops in linux?

I've been trying to work out what to do when I lose my wireless link in
linux. At the moment I have to reboot to get connected to the network
again. I have installed wireless-tools but can't figure out if they can
actually get the card to rescan or are just for configuration.

Belkin wireless card: f5d6020 in a belkin pcmcia cradle (f5d6000) -
these were detected and set up by the OS as it installed. more info on

Linux mandrake 9.1, KDE.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have been told it should do it automatically, so the card porbably needs
a firmware update.

It does, at least it does in SuSE. I've been using the WaveLan cards and
keeping track of my connection using the bundled WiFi Manager in KDE.
