Or is it just Linksys? The BEFSR41 to be precise. I bought this worthless
piece of junk a bit over a month ago (big mistake - should have waited till
SBC actually activated the line) and now its too late to return it to the
store (over 30 days). No worry now however -- after it rolled over on me
once again tonight (and for the umpteenth time in the past few weeks) and
refused to pass traffic in either direction (after less than 8 hours since
the last reinstall) -- I'm pretty sure it will never frustrate anyone ever
again. A half dozen whacks with a 26" collapsible ASP baton (basically a
heavy iron bar) causing it to promptly fly to pieces has seen to that - LOL.
Oh well, what's $50.00 shot to hell?

Every time it failed I would just yank the cat out of it and plug the dsl
modem directly into the main box and everything would work fine on that box.
Of course the other 3 were dead till I had time to shut everything down and
reboot \ reinstall the software (performing the system test, etc,) and then
hook everything back together. That might keep things working for a day or
two before it lost its mind again.

I can see why so many are trying to sell theirs. E-bay 's probably flooded
with em - LOL. Seriously, this must be the worst piece of network gear ever
made. What crap. Alas, I see Fry's has a similar D-link on sale for <
$40.00. I wonder?????

Seriously, anybody have a suggestion for one that will actually work in a
reliable fashion? Nothing wireless please. Just a simple small router that's
reliable. Reliability, being an absolute requirement. If not I will simply
bring in a few more dsl lines and hook one into each box. I just can't abide
perfectly good equipment being hamstrung by a single unreliable piece of
junk.

Any suggestions appreciated - TIA.....

Not sure what remedies you tried before the beating, but a firmware upgrade
may have helped. I've had little to no problem with several Linksys routers
and access points, some Dlink, Belkin and Netgear as well. Sometimes ya just
get a lemon though!!!

Go with a Watchguard. Costs more than SOHO's but, very reliable and has an
outstanding firewall.

Thanks but no. Tried that wk two. Went to the web site and let it configure
the whole setup during the initial install. Natch with RT(entire)FM after
half dozen reinstalls. No help. I believe the firmware stuff just caught up
various service pack releases. None of which I ever installed in the first
place after the first one which came with the box (win2kpro:-).

Thanks, it would still be cheaper than 3 more dsl lines for a year :-) Might
have to give it a try before its over. The little 6 port Firebox soho looks
suitable with a little room for expansion. I'll dig a bit deeper...

I went ahead and picked up the D-Link today but if it gives me any problems
I'll check that out -- thanks.

Got everything installed, configured, upgraded the firmware etc. and hooked
everything together. Been 4 days now and everything seems to be running
smooth. No dropouts or disconnects. So far so good :-)....

Thanks everybody.
