DNS Update Failed on a few clients

I'm scratching my head to figure out why only a few of my XP machines cannot
update thier DNS records through our DHCP.

If I run ipconfig /registerdns, the log on DHCP shows error 31, DNS Update
Failed. 95% of my other machines have no problem at all updating DNS. Is
there somewhere else I might look?

BTW, we're updating DNS securely, I've created a service account with
credentials to allow secure updates.

Hello,

since Windows 2000, it register itself the IN A dns, while asking the DHCP
Server to register the PTR (reverse dns) with the option 81:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true

why not using the default behaviour ?

You may have an issue with the ownership of the records as mention on the
upper document
Can you remove the records and make again the registerdns ?

Hello Mathieu,

We're configured so that the DHCP server always registers and updates client
information in DNS. After reading the article link you sent (thanks by the
way) I chose to add our DHCP top the DNSUpdateProxy group. After restarting
the DHCP server service, I'm getting sucessfull registrations.

From what I can see, option 81 is already enabled from my setting. I
couldn't find an option 81 on my DHCP server.
