I wish to employ open dns.
2 queries:
1: in config, I have "obtain IP addresses automatically"
(no dns number shown)
My D link router (DL524) is not shown.

Can I carry on regardless and use DL624 and given dns numbers ?

also I show 2 sets of ethernet NIC's
I assume I put the numbers in both?

Thanks for any advice / pointers.

If your router isn't shown and configured, then no, the networking will not
work.

Since your questions likely may exceed a simple networking issue, try this
link for some pointers:

http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com/re...NETWORKING.htm

might look at this also
http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com/re.../firewalls.htm

Post back in either forum [gen or here] if necessary.

If you do please post the results from this [preferably in this forum]:

from Start > Run > type in ipconfig /all /batch {with some drive, folder,
and file name - example: c:\temp\ipresult.txt} and post the contents of that
file...

Before we go any further,
perhaps I have not made myself clear
The instructions seem fairly simple other than
2 of my settings are not shown on the site.
Just in case I have misled in any way
this is what I would like to do, to stop porn getting
through to my 12yo
http://www.opendns.com/

I was just wondering if I can insert the dns numbers
as shown, and whether my DLink 524 router would be
included in the 624 settings.

Should I perhaps ask on site first?

Thanks for addressing my problem thus far.
it is appreciated.

Oh, thanks for the clarification.

Sorry, I have not used that service, I usually use other local proxies or
applications which provide that service.
Hopefully someone else can help you, or perhaps as you suggest, it may be
prudent to ask on that service.

There is another way, which many have used successfully, that being the use
of a hosts file.

| G'day MEB,
| received advice very promptly ( I am impressed)
| to wit:
|
| >Hi.
| Yes, you should be able to use OpenDNS without any problems.
| You do not need to change the IP address, but rather the DNS
configuration.
| If you click on the DNS configuration tab you should be able to add
| 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as your DNS servers.

Thanks for posting that, it will definitely make it into my data base for
future potential help to others.
