Hello All, I have a problem connecting my two PC's to the internet and a LAN
simultaneously, both PC's have two NICS , the LAN NIC's have static IP
addresses of 192.168.2.100 and 192.168.2.101 respectively, the internet
NIC's have IP's assigned using the DHCP server of an ADSL modem these are in
the 192.168.1. range, I have the dns addresses and gateways of the internet
NIC's set to the IP address of the ADSL router, the problem is when the PC's
are connected to the LAN (which is all the time ) the internet is
unavailable, as soon as I disable the LAN NIC the internet works perfectly,
what am I doing wrong ? both PC's are XP pro SP2 connected to a Windows 2003
server

Try setting the LAN NICs to not have any DNS listed. Leave the gateway of
the LAN NICs pointing to the ADSL modem, the same as you have it.

Why do you have two NICs in the machines? You can do all this with only one
NIC in each machine using your ADSL modem as the router, as you are. This is
how "everyone else" does it. Why not just disable one of the two NICs in
each machine an use only one?

After (re)reading your last sentence... about the server... what kind of
services is it running? DNS? DHCP? Domain Controller? Member server? Stand
alone server???? That info could change everything. Do you have two DNS
servers on your network (modem and server)? Do you have two DHCP servers on
your network?

Still don't see why you would need two NICs in the workstations though.

The reason I have two NIC's, is, I want to physically seperate the LAN
from the WAN, in fact I have it sorted now, the problem was both of the
NIC's had a gateway pointing to their respective servers
which apparently is a problem, I removed the gateway address from the
LAN NIC's and the problem went away, how could I do this with one NIC ?
, thanks for your time

You could do this with one $49 router.
