Since around 2330 last night I've been unable to view any web pages, get
any mail and none of my VoIP lines are working. I suspect a DNS problem
but this router (AVM Fritz!Box) doesn't permit setting of any alternatives.

I'm getting sync with the exchange and also an IP address but can't do
anything. Has anyone here experienced a problem using Orange (or
whatever they're called this week) in the Birmingham area..? Sending
this using my Voda dongle.

well set up a different DNS on your PC's then.

I've seen odd delays in WAN traffic all last night. There is also a
service anouncement out from Claranet suggesting that some part of BT's
backhaul is under stress and due for an upgrade.

Probably a spam storm or some new virus is rocking the boat somewhere.

It's up & running now, I did try the Orange "help" line which played a
recorded message telling me there was an unknown problem and they didn't
know if/when it would be sorted, but it came back on about half an hour
ago. Had to reset the router to get all the VoIP lines working again but
it seems to be stable for the moment.

Whether we'll ever know what it was is another matter..!

Thanks for that, although I'd still like to know what the problem
actually *was* (but I doubt I ever will..!)
