DNS problem on local machines

Hello everyone

I have a small home network connected to the world with a ADSL gateway
(linksys). The network has one server with a fixed IP and several other
machines with DHCP (controlled by the gateway).

The problem is that the computers can be accessed by their IP only, but
not the hostname. From the regular machines I solved it by putting my
server IP into the /etc/hosts file, but on the server I cannot do this
because the IP numbers change due to the DHCP.

How can this be solved?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Bind updated by the DHCP server
or
Make your DHCP server dole out the address acording to the MAC address.

This I don't understand. Could you explain this a little more in detail.

I guess this means that I should use the server as the DHCP server and
not the Linksys gateway.

Matt
