DNS problem in .local domain

Hi there,

I'm using named as a dns server which manages a fake "local" domain.
This was no problem throughout the years. On the server itself, the
host names are resolved well and even the windos boxes get the right
ips, when asking for .local names.
Now I'm using a new SUSE 9.1 installation on anouther linux machine
which is setup to query the dns server for ip addresses (entry in
resolv.conf nameserver ... and apporpriate entries in host.conf and
nsswitch.conf). This works fine for official domainnames like .com
..org .de et cetera. However, the .local machines cannot be resolved on
the application level (ping, webbrowser...), thoug a 'dig' or
'nslookup' gives the correct ip adresses. Thus, seems to be no problem
with the dns server, rather a problem with the resovler library?

Has anybody ideas to fix that problem?

Cheers Bernhard

..local is a reversed domain for Multicast DNS (part of the ZeroConf
protocols). Change it to something else (.localdomain, .home, whatever,
just not .local)
