DNS lookup issue

Windows 2003 server with Exchange Server 2003 Standard, with 50 XP Pro
clients, all DHCP enabled.

My users get a DNS error on the LAN when they go to http://www.mydomain.com

mydomain.com is a domain used for email (local Exchange server) and a web
site (off site hosted by ISP).

How do I get the local DNS to route all local requests for
http://www.mydomain.com through to the correct off site server?

TIA

Maurice

If mydomain.com is an Active Directory domain, then simply create a host
record called www within the existing zone - point the record to the public
IP. If mydomain.com is not an Active Directory domain, then on your DNS
server create a standard primary zone called mydomain.com. Within the zone
create a host record called www with the correct IP address.

Dear Doug

I have made the entry as suggested.

However, the ISP server IP address hosts a number of web sites. I still get
a lookup error when looking for www.mydomain.com

Any further suggestions would be greatlt appreciated.

TIA

Maurice

Hmmm. Try:

1. Either reboot or run ipconfig /flushdns on all machines, and try this
again.

2. Are you running a proxy server - possibly caching an incorrect entry for
mydomain.com?

3. Do external machines get a web page at http://www.mydomain.com?

4. Other possibilities - hosts file entries, different port - eg.
http://www.mydomain.com:8080.
