I have a PC with Win 98 SE running IE6. I haven't had
this PC on a network very long, but recently updated my
home with a Netgear router and high speed access. This
machine can connect to my Win XP machine which only has
TCP/IP installed. The Win 98 machine obtains an IP
address automatically and there are no settings
configured on the network adapter. I can ping internal
and external websites by IP, but cannot ping by name such
as
www.microsoft.com. When running winipcfg I see that I
have an IP with the correct subnet and DNS servers
listed - nothing odd. I've checked for Spyware, Malware,
Viruses, etc.. and everything is clean. If I try to
start IE I get the default dnserror.html page even if I
try to connect to http:// IP Address - I can't even get
it to open my router configuration page. My other PC's
all work fine. I have also uninstalled the TCP/IP
protocol, the adapter has been uninstalled as well as
tried a USB and two other internal cards and Uninstalled
Microsoft Family Logon and the MS Networking Client. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
