DNS fails after a few minutes

I have a new Sony PCG-GRV670 notebook running WinXP Home with a
Linksys WPC51AB dual band wireless NIC installed. The AP is a new
Linksys WAP11 ver2.6 connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 Cable/DSL router.
The router is connected to a BellSouth (Westel) DSL modem. All the
Linksys products have the latest firmware. The problem is that a few
minutes after booting the laptop, DNS lookup seems to fail. I can
browse the web if I put in the explicit IP address of the web server
but typing in the URL gives a 'Cannot find server of DNS error' page.
Pinging the URL from the command prompt gives a 'Ping command could
not find host...' message but pinging the IP address works fine.
Restarting the machine clears the problem for a minute or two. I
installed CommView 4.0 network sniffer software on the notebook and
when the problem is evident, I can see the DNS question packet go out
immediately followed by the DNS answer packet arrival. The answer
packet looks normal so I think the AP, Router, and DSL modem are
working fine. Additionally, other computers on the router and AP
continue to function OK.

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks in advance,

Alfred

A follow up:

I disabled the DNS client from the 'Services' adminstrative tool and
the DNS lookup began working!(?) There must be another DNS client
running that interferes with the XP DNS client. WEIRD!

Not really weird. I've heard of trouble with the DNS client before;
somehow the DNS cache gets corrupted, and knocks out the client giving
you no answers to DNS requests. ipconfig /flushdns may clear it out. If
not, disabling the (rather useless) DNS client service is the way to go.

Could you please be more specific? Exactly how and where do you get to the
Services administrative tool? Thanks.
